Firefighters "Fill the Boot" for MDA
11.10.2009

St. Helens, OR - -  On Friday, November 27, 2009, Columbia River Fire & Rescue will be out in full force collecting donations for Muscular Dystrophy Association, (MDA) “Jerry’s Kids”, Fill the Boot. Two simultaneous events will be held at the intersections of Highway 30 and Gable Road in St. Helens and Highway 30 and First Street in Rainier from 8:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The last three years have been a huge success; many generous donations were given from passer-by. Last year we received children’s very last pennies, to some adult’s $100.00 bills! Your local firefighters will be in firefighting gear, in the middle of the intersection collecting donations.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary national health agency partnered with scientist, and concerned citizens attempting to conquer neuromuscular disease affecting more than a million Americans. Fill the Boot campaigns have been supported for over 50 years by our national chairman Jerry Lewis. MDA today, is one of the world’s leading voluntary national health agencies fostering research and medical care to those affected by this terrible disease. MDA programs are funded almost entirely by individual private donations. MDA seeks no government grants, United Way funding, or fees from those it serves.
Firefighters from across the nation have been collecting donations for MDA for more than 50 years and have collected more than 281 million dollars nationwide. Firefighters are the number one highest contributors to MDA.
During this upcoming holiday season, please continue to help firefighters battle this helpless disease by your generous donations.
