 Chief’s Welcome

Greetings from Columbia River Fire and Rescue and welcome to our web site!  We are a combination paid and volunteer fire district with 100 firefighters, paramedics and administrative staff serving 27,000 citizens spread over 185 square miles of eastern Columbia County on the Columbia River.  Our district is comprised of the major communities of St. Helens on the south end and Rainier on the north end.  Several smaller communities dot the intervening geographic area of our highly diversified fire district.  The district protects a wide variety of customers ranging from highly industrialized areas along the Columbia River, to growing residential suburbs, to older historical buildings dating from the early 1900’s, to floating homes and marinas on the river, to large rural areas including heavily forested tree farms and other lightly populated areas.

The present fire district was formed through the merger of the old St. Helens Rural Fire District and the Rainier Rural Fire District in 2002.  Since that time many improvements to service have been effected and we are pleased to be able to report that the district is in good financial shape.  Just as in many parts of Oregon our incident response volume continues to grow and we have worked hard to conserve tax dollars while operating and maintaining a modern, responsive, and highly capable fire and life safety organization.

We invite you to come in or call us anytime when you think we can be of help.  We offer a wide range of informational and educational services that cover first aid, smoke alarms, fire extinguisher training, disaster preparedness, business safety, senior citizen safety, child safety seats, and other similar topics.  With the current emphasis on Homeland Defense and preparation for possible incidents relating to this, we have been highlighting the need for our citizens to build and maintain a 72-hour disaster preparedness kit in their homes and their vehicles.

We encourage you to visit our website often in order to stay abreast of all our activities, projects, and services.  Thank you for your interest in our services and we sincerely appreciate your support and confidence.  Columbia River Fire and Rescue continues to strive to meet and exceed your expectations.  Please let us know where we need to improve.  Columbia River Fire and Rescue is committed to
